How we got here
In 2009, one of us was running a small Internet Service Provider company in Mozambique. The business’ cash flow was tight, and it was clear that it wasn’t going to survive without a cash injection.
We built a pitch deck/business plan with what we thought investors would like to see, and started Googling investment funds.
It soon became apparent that this was going to be a long and arduous process as it was a completely foreign world to us, and Maputo isn’t exactly in the middle of Silicon Valley. We had to learn along the way what investors were looking for, what mistakes we had made in our pitch presentation, and how we were supposed to sell our story.
After many months of fruitless conversations, we were able to close a deal for $5m in equity funding. The business thrived after that, generating a 43% CAGR (compound annual growth rate) over a five year period.
The experience of raising the $5m made us realize the difficulty that most project owners face when trying to fund their projects. Had we known up front what was required to effectively pitch our project to investors, the process would have been much quicker and easier.
That experience, and many others since then, has made us realize that a lot of people struggle with the same issue, so we decided to build this site to help project owners get to their end goal faster.
